On October 30th, we'll be thanking our golf tournament sponsors. It looks like we'll net a bit over $5,000. Also on the 30th, our speaker will be District Attorney John Blodgett, thanks to Martha Holden's efforts.
President Steve reminded us that he has the tickets for the Taste Of The North Shore (March 24th).
Fred deNapoli announced that the Friends Forever team from Jerusalem is in the area next week. They'll be at the Ipswich Rotary meeting on Thursday at Noon, and later that evening at Fred and Rachel's house for a potluck dinner. Let Fred know if you can make it. Loring Merrow mentioned that he's taking the Friends Forever team from Ireland hiking next week.

ADG Helene Andersen Michel commended our club for all we've accomplished for a club our size. Then she introduced DGE Ingrid Brown who introduced District Governor Tom Elliott. DG Tom passed on the message of RI President DK Lee that he heard at the RI assembly in January. Every day 30,000 children worldwide die from preventable causes. So the focus this year has been and will be on children. Currently, the number of active polio cases is at its lowest level ever--1,341--thanks to Rotary, as well as the Gates Foundation. DG Tom recognized the District leadership team and programs. He reminded us that RYLA (a fantastic program for high school juniors) will be May 15-17. In the district, there are 3 Early Act clubs (5th grade), headed by Chris Docter of Ipswich Rotary; 27--soon to be 30--Interact clubs (high school); and 7 Roteract clubs (college age to 30 years of age). DG Tom mentioned that Keith Harris is in his third and final year as District Foundation Chair. He also lauded our very own Grace Martins for her GSE Team work--not just while away, but getting to over 20 clubs in the district! And he reminded us that there are several excellent speakers in the district who can talk about the Foundation. DG Tom mentioned that nominations for DG 2001-12 are being accepted. Must be a minimum of 7-years in Rotary and a Past President. The World Peace and Understanding Dinenr will be at the Danversport Yacht Club on February 5th from 6:00 to 9:00PM. The District Conference will be May 1-2 in Salem. DG Tom is trying to keep the cost as low as possible so everyone can attend some, if not all, of the conference.
DG Tom installed our newest members--Steve Padulsky and Martha Holden. Their sponsors are Steve Smith and Peggy Pedro, respectively. WELCOME TO PEABODY ROTARY, STEVE & MARTHA!! A remender to members: be sure to welcome Steve and Martha and sign their books for verification. Sgt-At-Arms Jeff Doherty will be reviewing the books in a couple of weeks and will fine those who have not welcomed Steve and Martha.
The monthly Board meeting followed this meeting.
