As President Grace is leading the District's GSE Team in Brazil, President-Elect Steve Morad ran today's meeting.  He announced that June 19th will be the date of our club's year-end celebration and his installation as 2008-9 President.   Be sure to save that date.  He'll give us more details as we get closer.  He then read the e-mail that we all received from President Grace about her visit to Brazil.  She's really enjoying herself!!

Fred deNapoli  told us that the GSE Team from Brazil is having a great time in our District.  On Sunday, they went to the Portland SeaDogs baseball game.  When someone scored, they waved the Brazilian flag and yelled "Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal!!!!!!!!!"  hmmmm.  Fred then introduced the GSE team from Brazil:  Team Leader and Rotarian, Ana Luiza deCastro Coelho, Rita de Cassia Souza Goulart, Marcelo de Oliveira Goncalves, Michelle Carvalho Rodrigues and Roberto Lopes Mendonca.  They presented a terrific slide show--about their country, their District #4560 and themselves personally.  Very informative!! After our meeting, they were off to tour Analogic (Thanks to Paul Roberts and Analogic for your hospitality), visit Cable TV and top off the day with dinner at Fire Bull, a Brazilian restaurant in Peabody.

*

PE Steve then drew from the four participants in the Circle of Gold-- Cathy Gravel, President Grace, Gary Epstein and Fred deNapoli.  Each of the four has pledged to contribute $250 a year for four years for the foundation.  (By the way, among many other projects, the Foundation pays for the GSE Teams.)  Because each will be donating $1,000, one will be chosen each year to receive a Paul Harris Fellowship.  This year's Paul Harris Fellow is President Grace!!

Steve Smith wants to know if anyone took pictures at the Taste of the North Shore.  If you did, please forward some to him so he can use one in an upcoming recruiting flyer.

*

President Grace asked that you send her your information and photo to be used at the June Installation Dinner.  She had e-mailed everyone a questionnaire.

*

Would you like to help Mel Babner deliver food for the Citizens For Adequate Housing families, temporarily housed in Salem?  Future delivery dates will be May 15th, June 19th and July 17th.  Anyone who would like to help Mel, please contact him.

*

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel Babner.  Every nickel helps!!  Mel thanks himself, Mike Tallo and Herb Harris for their donations.

*

Our speaker scheduler, Gayle Cavanaugh, is asking that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.

 *

Happy Dollars:  Today Sergeant-at-arms Jeff Doherty collected $66.

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  We can use the money!!  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

*

50-50 Raffle:  The pool was $26 (Wow!!!).  Neither Mike Tallo nor Mike Eidelman picked the Queen of Spades or the $50.

A senior citizen named Barney was driving down Rt. 128, when his cell phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife’s voice . She sounded urgent as she said to him to be careful. She just heard on the radio that somebody was driving down Rt. 128 the wrong way so please be careful!”

“Heck,” replied Barney , “It’s not just one car. It’s hundreds of them!”
