Yesterday Outback hosted a lunch to support our troops. Thank you to everyone who was able to go last minute.
During yesterday's Y it Matters Program, internet safety and cyber bullying was discussed. We still need volunteers to participate in this weekly program. Because the YMCA is so busy on Wednesdays, the program might be moving to Fridays. If you are interested in helping, please let Cathy know.
The Woodbridge Center is hosting a CPR informational program (including lunch) from 1-2pm. President Cathy has more information if you are interested in attending.
Our guest speaker from the Swampscott Rotary who spoke at our meeting on February 4, Patrick Burke, was in the newspaper recently; he spoke about how grateful he is for all of the support from the local community he has received for the troops.
Taste Update: We have 3 more restaurants confirmed this week: Fat Cactus, the restaurant at the Holiday Inn, and McKinnons! That makes 20!
I have met with the Danversport Yacht Club and confirmed the event details. Confirmation letters with floor plans went out to the participating restaurants.
Please continue to ask for - put together - donate - beg - and plead for raffle items! :) We would like to have a good variety of raffle items for the Taste.
Don't forget ticket sales can be processed via credit card for their convenience!
Please continue to bring your updates and ticket money to every Thursday meeting!

Our guest speaker today was Tom Dumas. He traveled to Antarctica from December 21 - 31. While on his trip he and a group of other adventure seekers sailed from Ushuaia, Argentina through the Drake passage and stopped at points such as the Antarctic Sound and Port Lockroy.
Tom told us about the regulations created to keep tourists 15 feet away from the wildlife to keep them as protected as possible... (both the tourists and the wildlife!) Tom visited an Argentine base run by their military and their families - this is the only place in Antarctica that children have been born. He got to spend one night camping on land and spent the days hiking, skiing, and taking pictures. Tom also mentioned that while signs of global warming may not have been obviously apparent to he and his tour group, the crew members pointed out many places where icebergs used to be and consiquently where they have melted back to.
Thank you for joining us and sharing your slide show of photos. Your presentation was very interesting and entertaining. Congratulations on being able to have such a unique experience and thank you for sharing it with us!

Happy Dollars: We collected $75 this week for everyone’s happy thoughts!
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

50-50 Raffle: Our guest speaker picked a new card - the Queen of Hearts!
Megan picked the Ace of Clubs and Tom picked the Queen of Diamonds. (Close but not quite!) The pot starts off at $19.50

REMINDERS:
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.

Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements. Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up. Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings. Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!
*************************
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!!

Thank you to Mel for providing the following joke of the week!
(If anyone has any stories or jokes you would like to add to the weekly Ripple, please email Vanessa at vsilveira@metrocu.org)
Innocence is priceless
One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex standing in the foyer of the church staring up at a large plaque. It was covered with names and small American flags mounted on either side of it. The six- year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the little boy, and said quietly, 'Good morning, Alex.'
'Good morning Pastor,' he replied, still focused on the plaque. 'Pastor, what is this?'
The pastor said, 'Well son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service.'
Soberly, they just stood together, staring at the large plaque. Finally, little Alex's voice, barely audible and trembling with fear asked, 'Which service, the 8:30 or the 10:45?'

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member. It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.
That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.
LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!
THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:
1. IS IT THE TRUTH?
2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?
3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?
4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?
Please keep this in mind!
