President Steve reminded us that the scholarship committee, chaired by Cathy Gravel, received 50 applications.  The Board approved the committee's recommendation of 11 to receive $1,000 each.  Cathy will host a reception for the scholarship winners at Gra-Voc on Tuesday, June 16th, at 5:30PM.  That presentation will be followed by a Board meeting.  Let's have a great turnout to honor these special students!  (Ed.'s note:  A reminder to all that everyone is not only invited but encouraged to attend Board meetings.  This is where your club's decisions are made.)

*

Cathy handed out registration forms for our club's annual dinner.  This is our big FELLOWSHIP event of the year and is always a great time.  It will be on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24TH, 6:00PM, AT THE WARDHURST GRILLE.  Dinner choices are Prime Rib, Lamb Shish Kebab, Chicken Parmigiana and Baked Haddock.  A great meal and fellowship for only $35!!  Be sure to return these forms to Cathy soon.  There will be no meeting the following morning so hangovers can be treated.

     *

Martha reported that she, Herb & Ellen served 27 at Haven From Hunger on June 5th.  This is the last time we're helping Haven From Hunger in this manner.  In the near future, we'll be feeding Citizens For Adequate Housing.  To learn more about this organization, be sure to attend our meeting on June 18th!

*

 Cathy has the sign-up sheet for the District Installation Dinner, which will be on Tuesday, June 30th at the Danversport Yacht Club.  This super annual event is only $60 per person.  Last chance to sign up!!  We'll have a good representation, though--Ten to twelve memebrs are signed up so far.

*

Grace said that the GSE Leader is being chosen this weekend.  She's on the committee.  Bob Wood reminded us that the District is still looking for non-Rotarian members of the team.

*

President Steve told us that he has 9 signs that need to go up.  They must be put up by city workers.  The signs are the Rotary Wheel along with the note that we meet on Thursday Mornings at the Marriott.  There are currently signs on Lowell Street (across from the High School), Margin Street, Lynnfield Street and Lynn Street, the latter three as one enters the city.  Other locations to put up signs will be Route 114, coming from Danvers, Main Street, coming from Salem (Boston Street), Route 1 (2 signs)--Northbound and Southbound.  Any other suggestions?  There wil also be a sign next to the Marriott sign and it will say "Rotary meets here . . .".

Rudy introduced our surprise guest speaker--Mike Klonsky, who represented the MA chapter of the Lymphoma Research Foundation.  Mike got involved when his wife was diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma.  There has been progress with the treatments of lymphoma patients.  Ten years ago, one would be expected to live only another five years.  Today, survival chances are excellent.  Three years ago, the walk-a-thon at Salem Willows raised $12,000.  This year it raised $80,000.  The Falmouth Road Race raised $150,000.  Mike was at our meeting to ask for help--not necessarily financial, although he'd surely accept that--but with ideas of how to raise more money--car raffles, etc.  And love to have people volunteer.  A major problem is that the Foundation had raised $37 Million.  Half of that was from Bernie Madoff.  Obviously, that source of funding is gone. So any help will be most appreciative.  (Ed.'s note:  Mike didn't leave any contact info, but the website for the MA Chapter is:    http://www.lymphoma.org/site/pp.asp?c=chKOI6PEImE&b=1573995.)

    Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of

  interest to the club.

*******************************************************

Reminders:

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.   Every nickel helps!!  Mel thanks Dick Berg for his generous contributions.

 ******************************

Happy Dollars:  This month's Sergeant-at-arms, Steve Padulsky, collected $55

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  We can use the money!!  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

    ******************************

50-50 Raffle: Neither Steve Padulsky nor Rudy Van Oeveren picked the Ace of Diamonds, so neither won the $136.

A man was telling his neighbor at Senior Center that he had just purchased a new hearing aid.

"It cost me four thousand dollars, but it's state of the art.  Worth every penny."

"Really,"  said the neighbor.  "What kind is it?"

The man replied, "Twelve thirty."

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member.  It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.  That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!

 THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:

1. IS IT THE TRUTH?   2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?   3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?   4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?

Please keep this in mind!
