President Martha reminded us of the schedule of meetings for the rest of her term as Club President, which ends on June 30th.  We'll meet as usual on June 16th (Megan's Classification Speech) and June 23rd (speaker will be past Ambassadorial Scholar and current head of the Peabody High School Art Department, Nancy Schallern).  The evening of June 23rd (6:30PM) will be our annual installation dinner at the Holy Ghost Society--be sure to RSVP with dinner choices for you and your mate.  The evening of Wednesday, June 29th, will be the District Installation Dinner at the Danversport Yacht Club.  There will be NO MEETING ON THURSDAY, JUNE 30TH.  On Friday, June 10th, we'll be serving at Haven From Hunger.  Thanks, Mel, for filling in at the last minute. President Martha will also be serving.

President Martha will miss the next meeting as she'll be under the knife for rotator cuff surgery.  Once back, she'll be a much stronger pitcher.

President-Elect Steve led a contingent of Peabody Rotarians, including Gary, Peggy P, Fred and John Meakin in a visit with Mayor Bonfanti yesterday.  The Mayor made no commitments for prospective members, but invited the club members to return in September to speak at his staff meeting.  The Mayor did suggest speaking with the folks at the light plant, Brooksby Village and Library Trustees.  Because there's a link on the city's website to the Peabody Chamber of Commerce, he was asked if there couldn't be a link to our website, as well.  He'll mull that idea.  He also thought that the Peabody Lions is about to fold because of low membership and that we might be able to join forces.  Although that does not seem to be the case, on their way out our members ran into Arthur Pavlo, a member of Peabody Lions Club.  He invited us to attend their monthly meeting on Monday at Carrabba's to speak to his group.  P-E Steve will send out a separate e-mail about this.

WE HAVE A NEW MEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Be sure to welcome JESSIKA RODRIGUEZ, a bank Officer at Eastern Bank on Foster Street.

President Martha said that our scholarship winners were announced at the High School Awards night last week.  We'll have a reception for them in the near future.

Fred presented what was supposed to be his Re-classification Speech.  But instead of talking about himself (although when asked later, he admitted to attending the Glover School in Marblehead), he gave his opinion on how we should say this year (2011)--is it two thousand eleven or is it twenty eleven?  Fred feels it's the latter, twenty eleven.  He then discussed the new managed accounts and mutual funds with detailed charts and graphs.  This is valuable information, particularly for those getting up there in age toward retirement.

                                                   *********************************

Happy Dollars:  Sergeant-at-arms Bob C, collected $39.

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  We can use the money!!  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

       *********************************

50-50 Raffle: Neither Gary nor Bob C. picked the Queen of Spades. So no-one won the $107.

           *********************************

Reminders:

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.

             **********************************

Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements.  Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up.  However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up.  Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings.  Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!

            **********************************

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.  Every nickel helps!!  Mel thanks former member Dick Berg for his generous donation of cans and bottles.

One day, a grandfather and his grandson go golfing. The young boy is really good and the grandfather is just giving him tips.

They are on the 8th hole and there is a tree in the way.  The grandfather says, "When I was your age, I would hit the ball right over that tree." So, the grandson hits the ball and it bumps against the tree and lands not to far from where it started.

"Of course," added the grandpa, "when I was your age, the tree was only 3 feet tall."

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member.  It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.  That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!

THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:

1. IS IT THE TRUTH?

2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?

3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?

4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?

Please keep this in mind!
