President Steve thanked the scholarship committee, chaired by Cathy Gravel.  The Award ceremony was held at a reception for the scholarship winners at Gra-Voc on Tuesday, June 16th.  Ten of the eleven recipients and their parents were there!!  Great turnout!  That presentation was followed by a Board meeting.

Our big FELLOWSHIP event of the year will be on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24TH, 6:00PM, AT THE WARDHURST GRILLE.  Dinner choices are Prime Rib, Lamb Shish Kebab, Chicken Parmigiana and Baked Haddock.  A great meal and fellowship for only $35!!  Be sure to return your registration forms to Cathy soon.  There will be no meeting the following morning so hangovers can be treated.

     *

President Steve will soon be meeting with members of the Chamber of Commerce and the City Council to begin planning the Golf Tournament.

*

President Steve announced the recent passing of Bob Wood's father.  The entire club sends its condolences to Bob and his family.

President Steve introduced our guest speakers Kim Alford (pictured) and Nichole Gilligan from Citizens for Adequate Housing.  Kim is the Program Director there and Nichole is the Food Manager.  They have been with CAH for 15 1/2 and 11 years, respectively.  Beginning August 7th, we'll be bringing a meal a month to CAH.  Inn Transition houses 14 families, which include 32 children.  Eight of the families are there for the sober living program while the other six families are there as an emergency shelter.  Their meals are generally community events--the families take turns preparing the meals for everyone.  When the CAH residence was being renovated, we brought a meal a month to the residents who had to live in a motel.  They really enjoyed and appreciated what we did for them and the fact that others cared about them.  MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  On August 7th, at 4:30PM, the entire membership will present the first meal at Inn Transition, 42 Washington Street, so everyone will learn the procedure.  We'll continue on the first Friday every month.  And as a "heads up", we'll all have to do this volunteer work more frequently.  We'll be feeding close to, if not over, 50 people, so rather than only three volunteers per month, it will take more.  (Another good reason to get more members into our club!!)

**********************************************

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of

  interest to the club.

Reminders:

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.   Every nickel helps!!  Mel thanks Dick Berg for his generous contributions.

 ******************************

Happy Dollars:  This month's Sergeant-at-arms, Steve Padulsky, collected $46

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  We can use the money!!  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

    ******************************

50-50 Raffle: Neither Cathleen Wardley nor Peggy Lyons picked the Ace of Diamonds, so neither won the $149.

Organized crime in America takes in over forty billion dollars a year and spends very little on office supplies – Woody Allen

*****************************************************

A young businessman had just started his own firm. He rented a beautiful office and had it furnished with antiques. Sitting there, he saw a man come into the outer office. Wishing to appear the hot shot, the businessman picked up the phone and started to pretend he had a big deal working. He threw huge figures around and made giant commitments. Finally he hung up and asked the visitor, "Can I help you?"

The man said, "Yeah, I've come to activate your phone lines."

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member.  It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.  That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!

THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:

1. IS IT THE TRUTH?   2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?   3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?   4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?

Please keep this in mind!
