Meeting notes

Today's visiting Rotarians: None--this number is too common.  When you visit other clubs (do you?), be sure to remind them where and when we meet.  Perhaps once the signs are put up (strong hint!), including at the Marriott, we'll start having visitors.

Guests:  None

During Sergrant-At-Arms Steve Padulsky's collections, we found out that this coming Sunday will be Mel & Ethel Babner's 50th Wedding Anniversary!!  Congratulations to Mel & Ethel!!!!!!!!!!

 *

President Cathy (how's that sound?) told us that Bob Wood is recovering at home from back surgery.  He'll be laid up for a few weeks.  Best wishes, Bob, for a speedy and complete recovery!

     *

Past President Steve presented the missing Certificate of Appreciation to Peggy Lyons.

*

President Cathy said that she received seven thank you notes out of the eleven scholarship winners.  That's a pretty good group!  She also received a thank you from the Lymphoma organization.  And she received the check from the District for our grant.  She read a letter of resignation from Dr. Mike Eidelman.  The Golf committee has had a couple of meetings.  Perfecto's and Peabody Financial Services will sponsor the breakfast and Outback will sponsor the luncheon.  President Cathy had it in her notes to congratulate Mel & Ethel on their Golden Wedding Anniversary.

*

As a service project for the club, we will be bringing materials to the Library, where there's a daily lunch program for children.  They go to the library Monday through Thursday, from 11:30AM to 1:00PM until August 6th. After lunch, they participate in various activities.  The numbers vary, but one day they had 60 kids participating.  We'll go on one day at the end of July.

Grace mentioned that she is trying to arrange a date for Donald Lyons (Peggy's husband) to speak to the club before the golf tournament.  He's a golf pro.

*

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  On August 7th, at 4:30PM, the entire membership will present the first meal at Inn Transition, 42 Washington Street, so everyone will learn the procedure.  We'll continue on the first Friday every month.  And as a "heads up", we'll all have to do this volunteer work more frequently.  We'll be feeding close to, if not over, 50 people, so rather than only three volunteers per month, it will take more.  (Another good reason to get more members into our club!!)   President Cathy will visit CAH next week to determine exactly what our participation will be and how many of us will be required each month.

**********************************************

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of

  interest to the club.

*******************************************************

Reminders:

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.   Every nickel helps!!  Mel thanks North Shore Bank for their generous contributions.

 ******************************

Happy Dollars:  This month's Sergeant-at-arms, Steve Padulsky, collected $100

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  We can use the money!!  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

    ******************************

50-50 Raffle: Neither Mel Babner nor Bob Clattenburg picked the Ace of Diamonds, so neither won the $163.

**********************************

Thank you!

EXERCISE FOR PEOPLE OVER 50
Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.

Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.
After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato bags.

Then try 50-lb potato bags and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a
100-lb potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member.  It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.  That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!

THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:

1. IS IT THE TRUTH?   2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?   3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?   4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?

Please keep this in mind!
