President-Elect Steve Morad ran the meeting as President Grace Martins is in Calcutta, India, doing missionary work.
*
Nichole Nelsen was to have presented her Classification Speech today. But she had to take her baby to a doctor's appointment (postponed because of the snowstorm on Monday).
*
Since it was today, we all sang Happy Birthday to Tom Rowen.
*
Tom Rowen gave an update on the Taste Of The North Shore. He's got several restaurants lined up--most recently Naked Fish. But urges us all to SELL, SELL, SELL the raffle tickets and the entrance tickets. Each member is also asked to obtain two gift certificates to be used as raffle prizes at the Taste. Once you sell any tickets, turn in the stubs and money to Treasurer Loring. So far (January 15th), he's only been paid for 12 tickets--out of 17 committed to. This is our largest fundraiser of the year. The more we raise, the more we can help the Peabody community and the more Rotary's name will be out there. And the more Rotary's name is out there, the more interest there'll be from prospective members. The more members we have, the more people we'll have to help with our fundraisers. The more help we have, the greater the number of gift certificates we can receive and the more attendees at our events. Which will result in raising more money, . . . Sponsonship sheets were e-mailed to everyone during the week. Diamond is $1,500 with lots of perks; Corporate is $250 with less perks, but still a good amount; and Patron is $75, which includes a ticket to the Taste and a 2-line message in the program.

Peggy Pedro and Cathy Gravel went to a RYLA (Rotary Youth leadership Awards) meeting at the DYC on January 12th. RYLA will be at Camp Rotary in Boxford on May 16-18. Often this weekend coincides with Prom weekend, but not this year. We can choose to pay for up to six High School Juniors to attend. Peggy reminded us that our Ambassadorial Scholar, Jessica Glynn, attended as a Junior, and went as a Senior to help. It was at RYLA, that Jessica changed her goals in life and that led her to apply for, and then receive, the Ambassadorial Scholarship. It's not always going to work out that way, but Rotary can change the lives of our youth!
*
Steve Smith did not remind everyone to sign his autograph book.
*
Below, you'll notice that we've got a number of programs scheduled. But our scheduler, Gayle Cavanaugh, is asking that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club.
*
Mel is still collecting cans and bottles.
*
Happy Dollars: Today Jeff collected $40.
*
50-50 Raffle: The pool was $86, per Loring. Neither "WINNER" picked the six of diamonds or the $50 Joker. One picked the four of diamonds, the other the eight of diamonds.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!
" Let us keep our hearts strong, enthusiasm fresh, hope high. As long as we keep imbued with this spirit, Rotary can never die."
The Rotarian, August 1926
THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:
1. IS IT THE TRUTH? 2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED? 3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP? 4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?
Two cannibals meet one day. The first cannibal says, "You know, I just can't seem to get a tender Missionary. I've baked them, I've roasted them, I've stewed them, I've tried every sort of marinade. I just can't seem to get them tender."
The second cannibal asks, "What kind of Missionary do you use?"
The other replied, "You know, the ones that hang out at that place at the bend of the river. They have those brown cloaks with a rope around the waist and they're sort of bald on top with a funny ring of hair on their heads."
"Ah, ah!" the second cannibal replies. "No wonder...those are friars!"
