President Steve welcomed everyone and reminded all that Mel is still pushing the Entertainment Books. Please remind all your friends, relatives and neighbors that this is an inexpensive stocking stuffer--or eighth night present. If you don't have them yet, contact Mike Tallo to get your Taste of The North Shore Tickets. What a great holiday present--a $100 raffle ticket that could turn into $10,000! But at least a dinner for two on March 24th! Gary Epstein, Jeff Doherty and Scott Bronstein will be at Haven From Hunger on Friday.
President Steve emphasized that our meetings begin PROMPTLY at 7:30. (Almost) Everyone voted to meet at this time, so there's no excuse to be late.
Cathy and Dave Gravel will host our first annual resumed Holiday party on December 29th. Details will be discussed at our December 11th meeting, next week. I'd guess it will be pot luck (no, not that pot, even though Question 2 passed), so start thinking about what you want to bring.
Our meeting of December 18th will be our annual Yankee swap. Bring a wrapped gift--real or gag--but no more than $20 value. No need to mark "to" or "from". If you feel generous, you might want to bring a second gift should we have visitors. And for those members who forget--of course they'll have to pay to participate.
*****************************
Steve Smith introduced Full House, the A Cappella Chorus at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, and their director, John Simmons. They were fantastic and full of enthusiasm.
*****************************
Mel Babner reminds everyone to sell the Entertainment Books. So far 110 have been sold. We need to sell 240!! He thanks former member and Past President Dick Berg for selling 7 books, former member Karen Butler for selling 7 books and former member Paul Mercandetti for selling 4 Books. What about current members???????????
*****************************
Nichole Nelsen and Grace Martins thank Mike Tallo and Scott Bronstein for their donations of clothes.
******************************
President Steve emphasized that every member has to sign up for at least one of the Taste Committees. All members are technically members of every committee, but you need to sign onto committees for logistics' purposes. Send an e-mail to President Steve -- you should reply to his recent e-mail.
*****************************
President Steve reminded the club that in order to have a successful Taste of the North Shore, it will take a lot of work by all members of Peabody Rotary. With 100% approval to go forward, he announced that we will go on with the Taste. The following subcommittees (and chairs) were named: Ticket Sales and records (Mike Tallo); Restaurants (Cathy Gravel)--7 have already signed up; Ad Book (Peggy Pedro); Auctions/Raffles (Scott Bronstein); Entertainment (Julie Erickson); Publicity (Steve Smith). Contact the committee chair on whose committee you want to work. But a reminder--we're all members of every committee. But choose one on which you'll work a bit harder. Mel has already sold some raffle tickets!! How many have you sold?
Reminders:
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!! Mel Thanks Herb for his generous contributions.
******************************
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, is asking that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.
******************************
Happy Dollars: Sergeant-at-arms Jeff Doherty collected $77. Of particular note was Fred diNapoli's reason for being happy--he attended a meeting of the Assistant District Governors and at least four of the others complimented the Peabody Rotary Club for all we've been accomplishing. It just proves that great things come in small packages (or memberships).
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
******************************
50-50 Raffle: The pool was $194.50. Someone forgot to buy raffle tickets, so there was no raffle this week. No-one picked the KING OF CLUBS or the $50 Joker.
*******************************

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member. It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter. That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.
LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!
" Let us keep our hearts strong, enthusiasm fresh, hope high. As long as we keep imbued with this spirit, Rotary can never die."
The Rotarian, August 1926
THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:
1. IS IT THE TRUTH? 2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED? 3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP? 4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?
A football coach walked into the locker room before a big game, looked over to his star player and said, "I'm not supposed to let you play since you failed math, but we really need you in there. So, what I have to do is ask you a math question, and if you get it right, you can play."
The player agreed, so the coach looked into his eyes intently and asked, "Okay, now concentrate hard and tell me the answer to this. "What is two plus two?"
The player thought for a moment and then answered, "4?" "Did you say 4?!" the coach exclaimed, excited that he had given the right answer.
Suddenly, all the other players on the team began screaming, "Come on coach, give him another chance!"
