President Steve began the meeting reminding us all to sell Entertainment Books. Mel announced that we've raised $600 so far. The final day for sales is next week.
Cathy and Dave Gravel will host our first annual resumed Holiday party on December 29th. They are generously providing all the food and drink!! Thank you so much, Cathy and Dave! Cathy will e-mail details and directions.

Mel will notify Fatima's to increase the amount of pork by 50% as more people need our help at Haven From Hunger.
***********************************
Peggy Lyons will represent our club at the RYLA meeting in January. Does anyone else want to join her? Both Cathy and Peggy Pedro said that there a lot of problems last year--very poor communication with the district and no flexibility. Because of these factors, no-one from Peabody was able to attend last year even though we paid for three students.

Mel Babner reminds everyone to sell the Entertainment Books. We've raised $600 so far. The final day for sales is next week.

DGN Steve May presented Grace with a check for her trip to Nicaragua. Gayle followed suit.

From Past Editions:
President Steve emphasized that every member has to sign up for at least one of the Taste Committees. All members are technically members of every committee, but you need to sign onto committees for logistics' purposes. Send an e-mail to President Steve -- you should reply to his recent e-mail.
*****************************
President Steve reminded the club that in order to have a successful Taste of the North Shore, it will take a lot of work by all members of Peabody Rotary. With 100% approval to go forward, he announced that we will go on with the Taste. The following subcommittees (and chairs) were named: Ticket Sales and records (Mike Tallo); Restaurants (Cathy Gravel)--7 have already signed up; Ad Book (Peggy Pedro); Auctions/Raffles (Scott Bronstein); Entertainment (Julie Erickson); Publicity (Steve Smith). Contact the committee chair on whose committee you want to work. But a reminder--we're all members of every committee. But choose one on which you'll work a bit harder. Mel has already sold some raffle tickets!! How many have you sold?
President Steve emphasized that our meetings begin PROMPTLY at 7:30. (Almost) Everyone voted to meet at this time, so there's no excuse to be late.
Reminders:
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!! Mel Thanks Herb for his generous contributions.
******************************
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, is asking that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.
******************************
Happy Dollars: Sergeant-at-arms Jeff collected $49.
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
******************************
50-50 Raffle: The pool was $207.50. President Steve did not picked the KING OF CLUBS. But Steve Smith picked the $50 Joker.

" Let us keep our hearts strong, enthusiasm fresh, hope high. As long as we keep imbued with this spirit, Rotary can never die."
The Rotarian, August 1926
THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:
1. IS IT THE TRUTH? 2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED? 3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP? 4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?
A new monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to help the other
monks in copying the old texts by hand. He notices, however, that they
are copying from copies, not the original manuscripts.
So, the new monk goes to the head monk to ask him about this, pointing
out that if there were an error in the first copy, that error would be
continued in all of the subsequent copies.
The head monk says, "We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but
you make a good point, my son."
So, he goes down into the cellar with one of the copies to check it
against the original. Hours go by and nobody sees him. So, one of the
monks goes downstairs to look for him.
Hearing sobbing coming from the back of the cellar, he finds the old monk
leaning over one of the original books crying.
He asks the old monk what's wrong, and in a choked voice came the reply,
"The word is celebrate."
