****************************************
President Martha reminded us that there is NO MEETING NEXT WEEK (December 16th). Instead, we'll have our evening of Fellowship at Capt's in Salem. There will be no charge for each member and one guest. Vanessa will e-mail details and directions to all.
The meeting of December 23rd will be our Yankee Swap. President Martha tells us that there will be a few twists to how it's run this year. But be sure to bring in a wrapped gift with a value of under $20. You might even want to bring a second gift should we have any visitors--or forgetful club members.
Our January 20th meeting will be a special Membership event featuring Mayor Bonfanti. Bob Wood will be presented with his Paul Harris PLUS 7 Fellowship!! And we want to show the public what Rotary is all about--so everyone should invite at least one potential member to this meeting.
Gary and Peggy P will be presenting the 2011-2012 slate of officers and directors electronically very soon. When you receive it, be sure to reply with your vote--yes or no to the entire slate.
President Martha has confirmed with Habitat For Humanity that Saturday, March 26th, is the date we'll be working. Hours to be determined. We'll be painting the NE ARC Pottery studio on Saturday, January 22nd. Under the rules of the grant we received for this project, ALL members are required to participate. President Martha is still waiting for the details of the Rotary Plunge, as well as the Rotary Day ala the Masons' open houses.
Grace said that beginning in January, all members will be doing a classification speech (again, for many). The program will kickoff with the longest serving Peabody Rotarian, Mel, on January 6th.
Vanessa handed out Taste raffle tickets to members who hadn't received them yet. If you haven't received yours, get in touch with Vanessa. She reminded us that we'll all be part of at least one committee--adbook, sponsorship, raffles. Additionally, there'll be assignments for that nights festivities. A new idea this year will be to sell table sponsorships.
President Martha reminded us about the NE ARC Pottery studio holiday giving tree. Take a tag and mail it with your check.
Grace introduced our guest speaker, Sergei Novikov, of Speaking Music. Sergei was raised in Russia, where he learned to play the piano. When he was 21, he emigrated to the US--all alone. On January 1st, 1991, he was living on the streets of Sanford, Maine, when he made a decision to be successful. His first "gig" was at a funeral. He solicited their business because he had misread the sign on the building--he thought it said "Bridal", but it was "Burial". But he received $100 for that job and hasn't looked back. He told us many stories of his successful life and career--both through words, often with humor, and through his music on the electric keyboard. He has performed in 25 states and in front of President George HW Bush, among other notables. A great and highly entertaining presentation!! Sergei's website is www.SpeakingMusic.com, in case you want to buy his book or some CD's of his music.
BOARD MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12TH, 5:30, AT SUGAR CANE.

Happy Dollars: Sergeant-at-arms Bob C collected $59.
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
******************************
50-50 Raffle: Neither John M nor Bob Wood picked the Seven of Hearts so no-one won the $353.00. ONLY 17 CARDS REMAIN!!
*******************************
Reminders:
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.
*************************
Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements. Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up. Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings. Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!
*************************
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!!
