President Martha started the meeting off by announcing that her Alaska Adventure presentation has been postponed.  She then read a couple of pieces of correspondence.  The first was about the Zone 32 awards for each of our committees.  She'll forward the information to each committee chair for them to work on.  Last year, we received an award from the District for our Literacy programs.  She then mentioned that DECA is once again looking for judges.  Everyone should have received an e-mail.  If you're interested, contact Lenny Brand at lcormat@comcast.net.   President Martha mentioned that Grace had forwarded to her a letter from Y-It-Matters asking for financial help.  Cathy described to the members the program and our participation.  But more information is needed on this request, so perhaps this will be discussed at the Board meeting next week.  President Martha handed to Peggy L a couple of letters from last year's scholarship winners to collect on their scholarships.

Loring reported that the profit for the Golf tournament was a bit over $12,000.  We and the chamber of Commerce each received $5,000, with the balance going to the City Council for their drug awareness program.  President Martha thought that perhaps next year we could join forces with the Peabody Lions Club, who held their tournament on the same day as ours this year.

Vanessa said that all restaurants were asked to "save the date" for the Taste of the North Shore.  She had e-mailed flyers, but some members did not receive them, so she'll send them out again.  If you don't receive her e-mail or if you haven't received your allotment of Taste tickets, let Vanessa know.  You can pick up your tickets at Metro Credit Union on Main Street.  After the first of the year, she'll begin with the committee assignments.  But that doesn't mean you should wait until then to start now soliciting ads, auction and raffle items and ticket sales. All money should be sent or given to Loring, as he's keeping track of ticket sales.  A great idea for Holiday stocking stuffers or 8th night gifts.

Gary and Peggy P are heading up the 2011-2012 nominating committee.  The slate of officers must be in by the end of the month, so if you're interested in serving on the Board, let either of them know--before they volunteer you.

Cathy met with Susan Ring Brown of NE ARC.  Our day of service is SATURDAY, JANUARY 22ND.  We'll be painting.  Under the terms of the grant EVERY MEMBER OF THE CLUB MUST PARTICIPATE!!  NE ARC has additional financial needs, so they created a "Giving Tree", which Cathy brought to the meeting--and will continue to bring.  There are "Ornament tags" to buy--take a tag with the dollar amount ($5 to $100) and what you want your donation to buy and send it with your check to NE ARC.

Herb reminded Loring and Jesse that they are responsible for Citizens For Adequate Housing tonight.  Actually, Loring reminded Herb, who, in turn, told the club.  Herb mentioned that it's each member's responsibility to read the newsletter where they'll see the month's CAH volunteers. Herb then mentioned that the picture of our scholarship winners finally made it into the Weekly News.  Hope the picture of this year's board makes it in before we have a new board.

There will be no meeting on December 16th.  Instead, we'll have an evening of Fellowship at Capts in Salem.  Details to follow.

Mel reported that Entertainment Book sales are slow. These, too, are great stocking stuffers and 8th night gifts as well as client appreciation gifts.

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.

        *************************

Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements.  Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up.  However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up.  Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings.  Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!

   *************************

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.  Every nickel helps!!  He thanks former member and President Dick Berg,Bob C and Herb for their generous contributions.

A man went for breakfast at his regular restaurant and ordered the Eggs Benedict. The order was served on a bright, shiny upside down hubcap.

When he asked about the unusual presentation, the waiter replied, “There’s no plate like chrome for the hollandaise.”

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member.  It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.  That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!

1. IS IT THE TRUTH?
