Citizens For Adequate Housing:

Meeting notes

Today's visiting Rotarians:

Guests:

Warren and Phyllis D'Eon.  Warren is a Past President of Peabody Rotary and grandfather of today's speaker, Kris Kimball.

****************************************

In President Cathy's absence, Past President Elect Steve ran the meeting today.  He started off by telling us that the Entertainment Books will be available next week.  So pre-sell!!!!!  He reminded Herb, Jeff and Martha that tonight will be the first dinner service for Citizens For Adequate Housing.  Herb said that because only three people will be needed each week, the schedule will be completely re-done and redistributed.

Past President Elect Steve reminded everyone to sell golfing, sponsorships and ads for the golf tournament (September 14th, in case you forgot the date).  Also, each member is expected to obtain at least two raffle items.

Martha has sent in the application for the District Simplified Grant for the S.T.O.P. program.

*

Grace introduced Amy Tetrault, who will be going to London as an Outbound GSE Team member.  Then Grace introduced two members of this past year's GSE Outbound team to South Africa, Kris Kimball and Becky Iseman.  They shared their experiences in this country of contrasts with us.  Both were extremely enthusiastic and in awe of the program.  Or, as Becky put it, "GSE is Amazing."  There's wealth in South Africa, next door to extreme poverty.  The biggest businesses in South Africa are cemeteries and funeral homes.  This is because of the HIV/AIDS epidemic plaguing the country (ed.: and much of the African continent).  Twenty five percent of the country is either infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.  Their presentation and slide show were superb.  Both expressed an extreme desire to return to South Africa.

District Governor Ingrid Brown will visit the club on October 29th.

Reminders:

**********************************************

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of

  interest to the club.

        **********************************************

Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements.  Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up.  However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up.  Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings.  Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!

  *

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.  Every nickel helps!!  Mel thanks Bob Clattenburg for his generous contributions.

 ******************************

Happy Dollars:  Sergeant-at-arms Steve Padulsky collected $36

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  We can use the money!!  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

    ******************************

50-50 Raffle: Neither Grace nor Bob Clattenburg picked the Ace of Diamonds, so neither won the $234.

I don't have a bank account, because I don't know my mother's maiden name.   Paula Poundstone

A married couple rushed to the hospital because the woman was in labor.  The doctor said to the couple, "I have invented a new machine that you might want to try, it takes some of the labor pains away from the mother and gives it to the father."

So the couple decided that they would try it. The doctor hooked the machine up and 10% of the pain switched from the mother to the father.  The husband said "I feel okay -  turn it up a lot more".

The doctor then turned it up to 50% and the husband said "why don't you just put it all on me cause I'm not feeling a thing" but the doctor warned them "this much could kill you if your not prepared".

The husband replied "I am ready" and the doctor turned the machine up to 100%, but the husband didn't feel a thing.

A day later the happy couple went home having experienced pain free labor.  They arrived home with their bundle of joy, only to discover the mailman, dead on the front porch!

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member.  It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.  That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!

THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:

1. IS IT THE TRUTH?   2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?   3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?   4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?

Please keep this in mind!
