President Steve met with Deanne Healey and Billy Woods of the Chamber of Commerce last week for a Golf Committee meeting. Plans are moving along. Perfecto's will probably supply breakfast, sponsored by Peabody Financial Services; there are a couple of options for lunch that are being explored. The Chamber of Commerce will handle the Ad Book (GET ADVERTISERS!!), Sponsorships (GET SPONSORS!!), and raffle (PICK UP RAFFLE ITEMS AND BRING A BOTTLE OF WINE!!). We need golfers!!
President Steve asked Deanne if the Chamber would like to join us as we host the Mayoral candidates on October 6th (a change from September 26th, which is Rosh Hashanah). The thought is to open it to the public and charge $15 in advance and $20 at the door. It will be at the Holy Ghost Society, but in the larger room. Contact President Steve if you'd like to be on the committee for this event.
Martha passed around the prototype of our new brochure, asking for corrections and suggestions. We hope to place them into all the golfers' bags as well as have them at the International Festival and on the tables on October 6th. Every club member will be given 20 to hand out.
Martha said that Citizens For Adequate Housing has a wish list for their Adopt-A-Room program. The Board voted to authorize $300 to be spent on the Kitchen items. And members will contribute items, as well. The list was circulated to members and will be e-mailed to all.
Cathy asked if we are still able to apply for a District Grant. President Steve will check on it. Cathy's thought is to provide the Peabody Education Foundation (formerly Council) with smart carts at a cost of $3000 each.
Peggy L will soon be contacting the Mile High Pie Company. There was a question about the number of blueberry pies that should be ordered. She'll soon be asking members to sign up for their times at the International Festival.
Brian reminded us of Saturday's Blues and Brews festival. If you're interested in going, go online to buy your advance tickets.
Peggy L mentioned that the Y will have a blood drive on September 15th from 8:00AM to 1:00PM. She'll try to get our club to sponsor a drive there in October.
Mel reminded us to display and sell the Entertainment Books. He'll be giving books to former members Steve Blomerth and Mike Eidelman, who display and sell them at their offices. Mel lauded Metro Credit Union as well. All the banks and anywhere else there are customers and foot traffic should be displaying the books.
Herb said that there were articles in both the Salem News and the Peabody Weekly News last week about the Installation Dinner. And the Weekly also lists out meetings in their new Community Calendar and they have the article about the Entertainment Books prominently posted.
DG Swami will make the annual District Governor visit to the club on Thursday, September 15th.
*********************************
Happy Dollars: Sergeant-at-arms John Meakin collected $57.
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
*********************************
50-50 Raffle: Neither President Steve nor Loring picked the Jack of Spades. So no-one won the jackpot of $92.
*********************************
Reminders:
Our speaker scheduler, Brian Cassidy, asks that you tell him of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.
**********************************
Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements. Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up. Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings. Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!
**********************************
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!! Mel thanks former peabody Rotary Club member and Past President Dick Berg as well as Beth Hoffman of Temple Ner Tamid for their generous contributions.
